This House Literally Floats to Survive Powerful Earthquakes.

Engineers in Japan are testing a futuristic earthquake defence system that could change how homes are built forever. In a country where tremors strike often and unpredictably, this groundbreaking technology could be the key to protecting lives, property, and peace of mind.

Developed by Air Danshin Systems, the idea is as bold as it is brilliant. When an earthquake begins, high-speed sensors instantly detect the tremors. In less than a second, powerful air compressors activate, lifting the entire house a few centimetres off the ground using a cushion of compressed air. While the earth shakes beneath it, the home simply floats above the chaos. Once the shaking stops, the house gently returns to its original position, without damage, without stress.

This technology is drastically different from traditional quake-resistant architecture, which relies on shock absorbers and flexible frames to handle seismic waves. Instead of fighting the movement, these floating homes rise above it entirely.

ঊনবিংশ শতাব্দীর শেষভাগ ও বিংশ শতাব্দীর সূচনালগ্নে, বাংলার সমাজে যখন নারীশিক্ষা ও নারীমুক্তি এক ক্রমবর্ধমান আলোচনার বিষয় হয়ে উঠেছে, তখনই উদিত হয়েছিলেন এক বিশিষ্ট কবি, সমাজসেবিকা ও একজন আদর্শ মাতার প্রতিচ্ছবি—কুসুমকুমারী দাস (১৮৭৫–১৯৪৮)। তিনি আধুনিক বাংলা সাহিত্যের অন্যতম প্রধান কবি জীবনানন্দ দাশের জননী, কিন্তু তাঁর নিজের জীবন, সাহিত্যচর্চা ও সমাজসেবামূলক কাজও তাঁকে স্বতন্ত্র মহিমায় অধিষ্ঠিত করে।

কুসুমকুমারীর জন্ম হয় ১৮৭৫ সালে। তিনি কলকাতার বিথুন স্কুলে শিক্ষালাভ করেন, যা ছিল সে সময়ে নারীদের জন্য উচ্চশিক্ষার এক অগ্রগামী প্রতিষ্ঠান। তাঁর সাহিত্যচর্চার বীজ রোপিত হয় পিতার হাতে। তাঁর পিতা চন্দ্রনাথ দাস হালকা রচনার কবি ছিলেন এবং তাঁর কাছ থেকেই কুসুমকুমারী লেখালেখির প্রতি আকৃষ্ট হন।
১৮৯৪ সালে, ১৯ বছর বয়সে, কুসুমকুমারী বিবাহবন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হন সত্যানন্দ দাস-এর সঙ্গে। তাঁদের সংসারে তিন সন্তান জন্মগ্রহণ করেন—প্রখ্যাত কবি জীবনানন্দ দাস, অশোকানন্দ দাস, ও কন্যা সুচরিতা দাস। জীবনানন্দের আত্মিক ও বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিক গঠনে কুসুমকুমারীর প্রভাব গভীর ও স্থায়ী ছিল।

কুসুমকুমারী দাস নিয়মিত কবিতা লিখতেন। তাঁর রচনাগুলি প্রকাশিত হত সে সময়কার উল্লেখযোগ্য পত্র-পত্রিকায়—‘মুকুল’, ‘ব্রাহ্মবাদী’ ও ‘প্রবাসী’-তে। তিনি নিয়মিত ব্যক্তিগত ডায়েরি লিখতেন, যদিও দুর্ভাগ্যবশত সেসবের বেশিরভাগই তাঁর নিজের হাতে ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত বা হারিয়ে যায়।

তাঁর সবচেয়ে বিখ্যাত কবিতা “আদর্শ ছেলে”, যা বাংলার শিশুসাহিত্যে এক অমর স্থান লাভ করেছে। এই কবিতার প্রথম দুটি চরণ আজও বহু শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের পাঠ্য ও নৈতিক শিক্ষা হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়—

কেবল গৃহিণী ও কবি নন, কুসুমকুমারী দাস ছিলেন একজন সক্রিয় সমাজসেবিকা। বরিশাল মহিলা সভা (Barisal Women Society)-র তিনি সম্পাদক ছিলেন। এই সংগঠন সমাজকল্যাণে অসামান্য অবদান রাখে—অভাবী কন্যাদের সাহায্য, ধাত্রী প্রশিক্ষণ, বালিকাদের বিদ্যালয় স্থাপন, এবং নারীদের গৃহশিক্ষার ব্যবস্থা ছিল এর মূল লক্ষ্য।
তিনি ছিলেন ব্রাহ্মসমাজের সদস্য, এবং ১৩১৯ থেকে ১৩৩৮ বঙ্গাব্দ পর্যন্ত নারী দিবস প্রার্থনায় আচার্য হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। এমনকি কখনো কখনো তিনি সাধারণ ব্রাহ্মসমাজের সমাবেশেও আচার্য পদে অভিষিক্ত হন, যা সে সময়কার সমাজে নারীদের জন্য এক বিরল সম্মান।

কুসুমকুমারী দাস তাঁর সময়ের একজন প্রগতিশীল নারী ছিলেন। তাঁর সাহিত্যচর্চা, সমাজসেবা ও মাতৃত্ব একত্রে তাঁকে এক অনন্য উচ্চতায় প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছে। তিনি ছিলেন নারী শিক্ষা ও সমাজ উন্নয়নের এক নিঃশব্দ যোদ্ধা, যাঁর জীবনপ্রবাহ পরোক্ষে হলেও জীবনানন্দ দাশের মতো কবির মানসগঠনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রভাব ফেলেছে।

তাঁর রেখে যাওয়া “মানুষ হইতে হবে”-র পণ আজও আমাদের সমাজে নৈতিক চেতনার এক অনন্য বার্তা হিসেবে প্রতিধ্বনিত হয়।

🚀 Voyager 1 is now about 23 light‑hours from Earth—over 25 billion kilometers away, or nearly six times the distance from the Sun to Pluto—and still racing into the darkness of interstellar space. Launched in 1977, it sits about 167 times farther from us than the Sun, moving at a blistering 17 kilometers per second. Even at light speed, a signal from Earth takes over 23 hours to reach it—and another 23 hours for a reply.

When something goes wrong, NASA’s fix is a test of patience and precision. Engineers beam carefully crafted commands through the Deep Space Network’s massive antennas, wait nearly a day for the signal to arrive, then another day to see if it worked. Sometimes the solution means waking up hardware unused for decades or rewriting software from scratch—while billions of kilometers away.

Its computer? A mere 69 kilobytes of memory—less than a single image on your phone. And yet, this aging probe has survived for almost half a century, outlasting countless newer technologies.

Voyager 1’s original mission was to study Jupiter and Saturn. Instead, it has become a lone messenger from humanity, carrying our story into the stars. By the early 2030s, its power will fade, but the spacecraft will keep drifting for millions of years, long after every human alive today is gone.

No drugs. No chemo. Just light and cancer cells explode from the inside.

In a major breakthrough that could change cancer treatment forever, scientists have discovered a way to destroy cancer cells using nothing but light no drugs, no chemotherapy, no radiation.

Researchers from Rice University, Texas A&M, and University of Texas created what they call “molecular jackhammers.” These are special dye molecules called aminocyanines that naturally attach to cancer cell membranes. When exposed to near-infrared light, these molecules begin to vibrate violently, shaking the cancer cells so hard that their outer walls rupture.

The result? The cancer cells fall apart literally broken from the inside out.

In lab tests on human melanoma cells, this method destroyed about 99% of cancer cells. That’s not just impressive it’s nearly total destruction. In early tests on mice, 50% of the animals became completely tumor-free after receiving the treatment.

This approach is still in its early stages, but it shows enormous potential. It’s fast, precise, and avoids the painful side effects of chemo or radiation. Plus, since it uses light instead of chemicals, it may be safer and more targeted with fewer impacts on healthy cells.

Scientists believe this could be the future of cancer treatment: non-invasive, drug-free, and powered by light.

রাজেন্দ্রলালের মৃত্যুর পর সোসাইটিতে সংস্কৃত পুঁথি অন্বেষণ বিভাগের পরিচালক হন । অল্প কয়েকজন সহকারী নিয়ে হরপ্রসাদ ‘এশিয়াটিক সোসাইটি’র দশ হাজার পুঁথির ক্যাটালগ প্রস্তুত করেন ৷ এই ক্যাটালগের যে দীর্ঘ মুখবন্ধটি তিনি রচনা করেছিলেন, তা সংস্কৃত সাহিত্যের একটি মূল্যবান ইতিহাস । সংস্কৃত পুঁথি নিয়ে চর্চা করতে করতেই হরপ্রসাদ বাংলা পুঁথির বিষয়েও আগ্রহী হয়ে ওঠেন । পুঁথির সন্ধানে তিনি অনেকবার নেপাল গিয়েছিলেন । সেখানেই ১৯০৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে তিনি আবিষ্কার করেন চর্যাগীতি বা চর্যাপদের পুঁথি ৷ এই পুঁথিগুলি নিয়ে গবেষণার মাধ্যমে তিনি প্রমাণ করেন এগুলিই বাংলা সাহিত্যের আদিতম নিদর্শন ৷

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এই সাবেক বাংলা সংস্কৃতি বিভাগের বিভাগীয় প্রধান ১৯০৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে, নেপালের রয়েল লাইব্রেরী থেকে বাংলা সাহিত্যের একমাত্র আদি নিদর্শন ‘চর্যাপদ’ আবিষ্কার করেন ৷ ১৯১৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে, চর্যাপদের পুঁথি নিয়ে রচিত তাঁর গবেষণাপত্র “হাজার বছরের পুরাণ বাঙ্গালা ভাষায় রচিত বৌদ্ধ গান ও দোঁহা” নামে প্রকাশিত হয় ।

হরপ্রসাদ শাস্ত্রী অনেক প্রাচীন গ্রন্থ সংগ্রহ করে প্রকাশ করেছিলেন । তিনি সন্ধ্যাকর নন্দী রচিত ‘রামচরিতম্’ বা ‘রামচরিতমানস’ পুঁথির সংগ্রাহক ৷ তিনি বহু গবেষণাপত্রও রচনা করেন । তিনি ছিলেন এক খ্যাতনামা ‘হিস্টোরিওগ্রাফার’ ৷ স্বীয় কাজের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ লাভ করেছিলেন বহু পুরস্কার ও সম্মান ৷

তাঁর রচিত বিখ্যাত সাহিত্যসৃষ্টিকর্মগুলি হলো:
‘বাল্মীকির জয়’
‘মেঘদূত ব্যাখ্যা’
‘বেণের মেয়ে’ (উপন্যাস)
‘কাঞ্চনমালা’ (উপন্যাস)
‘সচিত্র রামায়ণ’
‘প্রাচীন বাংলার গৌরব’
‘বৌদ্ধধর্ম’
‘শ্রেষ্ঠ প্রবন্ধ’ প্রভৃতি ৷

তাঁর উল্লেখযোগ্য ইংরেজি রচনাগুলি হল ‘মগধান লিটারেচার’, ‘সংস্কৃত কালচার ইন মডার্ন ইন্ডিয়া’ ও ‘ডিসকভারি অফ লিভিং বুদ্ধিজম ইন বেঙ্গল’ ইত্যাদি ৷

মহামহোপাধ্যায় হরপ্রসাদ শাস্ত্রী ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়’র বাংলা ও সংস্কৃত বিভাগের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা এবং দীর্ঘকাল ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অধ্যাপনা করেছেন ৷ অধ্যাপনা ও সরকারি কাজের পাশাপাশি হরপ্রসাদ শাস্ত্রী দু বছর ‘এশিয়াটিক সোসাইটি’র সভাপতি, বারো বছর ‘বঙ্গীয় সাহিত্য পরিষদ’র সভাপতি এবং লন্ডনের ‘রয়্যাল এশিয়াটিক সোসাইটি’র সাম্মানিক সদস্য ছিলেন ৷ ১৯৩১ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ১৭ই নভেম্বর ৭৮ বছর বয়সে এই মনীষী প্রয়াণবরণ করেন ৷
