    Norway has installed massive mirrors on mountain slopes to reflect sunlight into towns that go without direct sun for months during winter. This innovative solution was implemented in Rjukan, a small town nestled deep in the Vestfjord Valley in southern Norway.

    Due to the steep mountains surrounding it, Rjukan doesn’t receive direct sunlight from September to March. According to CNET, the town installed three giant mirrors in 2013, each about 183 square feet, on a nearby mountainside to reflect sunlight into the town square.

    These mirrors are remote-controlled, powered by solar and wind energy, and programmed to follow the sun’s path across the sky. They sit roughly 1,476 feet above the town and rotate on two axes to direct sunlight down into the valley. The project was inspired by an idea first proposed in 1913 by the town’s founder, Sam Eyde, but only became feasible with modern technology.

    ভেবেছিলাম বুয়েটে CSE তে পড়ব।
    ওমেকাতে পজিশনও খারাপ ছিল না। কিন্তু ভর্তি পরীক্ষার দিন কী হলো কয়েকটা অঙ্ক কোনোভাবেই মিলাতে পারলাম না। মনে করেছিলাম হয়তো চান্সই পাব না। রেজাল্টের পর দেখলাম কোনরকমে পেয়েছি, কিন্তু সিরিয়াল অনেক পেছনে। টেনেটুনে মেকানিকাল এ আসে, আরেকদিকে আর্কিটেকচার।

    এর মাঝে আবার ঢাকা ভার্সিটির IBA এর BBA তে রিটেনএ টিকলাম। তখন IBA এর গ্রাজুয়েটদের অনেক দাম। ভাবলাম IBA তে হয়ে গেলে সেখানেই পড়ব, কিন্তু কিভাবে যেন সেখানেও ভাইভা তে বাদ পড়ে গেলাম।

    তারপর ভাবলাম, আর্কিটেকচারে পড়ে দেশে একটা ফার্ম দিব, Creativity দিয়ে অনেক কিছু করে ফেলব। তাই মেকানিকাল এর এর চেয়ে আর্কিটেকচারই ভালো অপশন। ভর্তি হয়ে গেলাম সেখানেই। বন্ধুবান্ধব, বুয়েটে লাইফ ভালোই চলছিলো, কিন্তু অনেক আগে থেকেই বাইরে পড়তে যাবার একটা সুপ্ত ইচ্ছা ছিল। শুরু করলাম বাইরে অ্যাডমিশন এর চেষ্টার।

    অনেকেই বললো এখন গিয়ে কী করবা, বুয়েটে শেষ করে মাস্টার্সএ যাও, Undergraduate এ গেলে নিজে টাকা দিয়ে পড়তে হবে। কিন্তু তারপরও হাল ছাড়লাম না। গেলাম ঢাকার idp তে, বললাম যে ANU তে নাকি ফুল স্কলারশিপ দেয়, কিভাবে কি করতে হবে? তারা বলল যে ইংলিশ মিডিয়াম হলে লাভ ছিল, বাংলা মিডিয়াম এর A+ এর দাম নাই। তারপরও নিজে থেকেই IELTS দিলাম, ANU তে অ্যাপ্লাই করলাম। কিন্তু লাভ হলোনা, শেষমেশ রিজেক্ট।

    অস্ট্রেলিয়া তো আমাকে পাত্তা দিলোনা, ভাবলাম আমেরিকায় চেষ্টা করে দেখি। কিন্তু সেখানে আবার SAT আর TOEFL ছাড়া কিছু হয়না। সেগুলোও দিলাম। খুঁজে পেতে দেখলাম যে টপ ভার্সিটিগুলো চান্স পেলে financial aid দেয়। তাই ভাবলাম এবার তাহলে MIT তেই যাবো, বুয়েটে, ANU তো আর আমাকে বুঝলো না। 😛 সব ঠিকঠাক করে MIT তে অ্যাপ্লিকেশনও জমা দিলাম। (যদিও হাতে গোনা কয়েকজন ছাড়া এটা কেউ জানতো না)
    কিন্তু শেষমেশ এখানেও রিজেক্ট।

    এবার ঠিক করলাম জাপানে মনবসু (আসল উচ্চারণ "মনবুকাগাকুশো") স্কলারশিপে পড়তে যাব। অ্যাপ্লাই করলাম, রিটেনএ টিক লাম, আমাদের ৪ জনকে এম্ব্যাসি থেকে সিলেক্ট করে ভাইভা তে ডাকলো। ভাইভাও খুব ভালো হলো। আমাদের কজনের নাম জাপানের মিনিস্ট্রিতে পাঠালো। কিন্তু এবার কি হলো, বাংলাদেশ থেকে ওরা একজন কেও সিলেক্ট করলো না আর আমার জাপানের সপ্ন স্বপ্নই রয়ে গেল।

    জাপানি rejection এর কদিনপরে দেখলাম Korean Government Scholarship এর সার্কুলার। এবার ভাবলাম তাহলে কোরিয়াতেই যাই, SNU বা KAIST এ পড়বো, খারাপ কি। আসার আগে অনেকেই বলেছিল, বুয়েট ছেড়ে যাচ্ছ, ঠিক করছো তো? Korean ডিগ্রির আবার দাম আছে নাকি? ওখানে তো মানুষ কুকুরের মাংস খায়, ইত্যাদি ইত্যাদি। কিন্তু আমার কাছে সবসময়ই মনে হয়েছে যে যেকোনো গভর্নমেন্ট স্কলারশিপ অনেক গর্বের একটা বিষয়, এখানে একজন স্টুডেন্ট তার দেশের রিপ্রেজেন্টেটিভ হিসেবে নিজের দেশকে তুলে ধরতে পারে। এরকম সুযোগ হাতছাড়া করা ঠিক না। তাই সবকিছু উপেক্ষা করে বুয়েট ছেড়ে চলে আসলাম South Korea তে পড়তে।

    এখানে এসে ১ বছর language course এর পরে বুঝতে পারলাম যে আমি SNU বা KAIST এ পড়তে পারবো না, কারণ আমি ভার্সিটি ট্র্যাকে অ্যাপ্লাই করেছি। যেই ভার্সিটির মাধ্যমে অ্যাপ্লাই করেছি সেখানেই পড়তে হবে। আর SNU বা KAIST এ পড়ার ইচ্ছাও আমার অপূর্ণই থেকে গেল।

    পাস করার আগে/পরে Google, Facebook, Apple, LinkedIn এ অনেক cv জমা দিয়েছি। কিন্তু কোথাও থেকেই কখনো কল পাইনি। মাঝে কল পেয়েছিলাম ThinkCell নামে ছোট একটা জার্মান কোম্পানি থেকে। সেখানে ইন্টারভিউও দিয়েছিলাম। আবারও প্রথম রাউন্ডেই বাদ।

    এর পরে একসময় গ্র্যাব থেকে ইন্টারভিউ এর কল পেয়েছিলাম। সেখানেও ইন্টারভিউ এর দ্বিতীয় রাউন্ডে বাদ পড়লাম।

    তারপরও হাল ছাড়িনি, চেষ্টা করে গিয়েছি।
    প্রথমেই থেমে গেলে হয়তো এতদূর আসা হতো না।

    বুয়েট এর CSE কিংবা এমআই টি তে পড়ার সুযোগ হয়তো হয়নি কিন্তু আজ যতদূর আসতে পেরেছি সেটাও বা খারাপ কী?

    যেকোনো সাকসেস এর পেছনে এরকম হাজারো ব্যার্থতা থাকবে।

    So, don't let your failures define who you are.
